On Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., at the University of British Colombia, (room UCLL 107), Lawyers Without Borders Canada (LWBC), in collaboration with Pro Bono Students Canada, will present its work with special guest Jomary Ortegón Osorio, visiting Colombian lawyer from the José Alvear Restrepo Lawyers Colective (CAJAR).
The presentation, “Protecting Human Rights and the Rule of Law internationally: a Special Focus on Colombia”, will feature a presentation on LWBC’s work by Pascal Paradis and a presentation on the human rights and justice situation in Colombia by Jomary Ortegón Osorio.
Mr. Pascal Paradis is a lawyer in the Province of Quebec. He is one of three founding members of the Canadian branch of Lawyers Without Borders, where he serves today as Executive Director. He has participated in or managed numerous international cooperation programs in the justice sector, including in Colombia.
Ms. Jomary Ortegón Osorio, is a lawyer who specializes in constitutional law, aboriginal rights, human rights and international humanitarian law and has worked with the CAJAR for 9 years. She has litigated high profile human rights cases before the Colombian national courts as well as before the Inter-American and UN systems. LWBC has been working closely with the CAJAR and other lawyers organizations in Colombia since 2003.
Ms. Ortegón Osorio and Mr. Paradis will be available before or after the session to respond to questions from the media.
